Cosmetics
The up-and-coming film industry of the 1920s and the glamour of Hollywood actresses, such as Greta Garbo, created a new demand for a variety of cosmetics.
Make-up
In the 1920's, the iconic "flapper" would wear a lot of makeup. Her face would be powdered. She'd have her lips heavy with red or plum lipstick, but only in a "cupid's bow" as shown below, deemphasizing the width of the lips. Her eye makeup would be similar to the "smoky eye" of today, with the eyebrows outlined in a dark black. And, her cheeks would be blushing with pink "rouge."
Also, lady's nails wouldn't be fully painted a single color. The half moon and nail tip would be painted white, with the middle colored in.

Hair
In the 1920's, short hair for women was a complete change from the old, longer styles. "Bobs" became the cut every girl had to have. The main styles for bobbed hair were finger waves, Marcel waves, and "shingle" style. The lady on the left is wearing the aforementioned Marcel waves.
